Sports Provision 2022/23

The school will follow all Covid-19 related Risk Assessments with regards to both internal and  future inter school competitions if required.  We can only state intent with regards to external competitions as the COVID situation is fluid and may impact on sports provision.

We aim to provide as high a standard of teaching, coaching and competition as we can for the children, whatever their ability or motivation to take part. We believe that your child’s well-being relies on meeting all their needs with sport and PE one factor alongside their health, social skills and academic progress.

We are a member of the Bolsover School Sports Partnership that provides competitive sport opportunities (see below) as well as high quality coaching and training opportunities for school staff including lunchtime supervisors. They also provide bicycle training (Bikeability) for older pupils.

For the past three years, we have bought into the Bolsover Sports Package where specialist sports coaches are working with teachers to develop their PE teaching skills on a weekly basis. This has benefited teachers and children from F1 – Y6. The sessions have involved: badminton, football skills and physical development for the foundation stage children. We will not access this in 2022/23 as we are looking for gymnastic and dance coaching opportunities to develop teacher skills.

In addition, we also provide Lunchtime sports coaching through the North East Derbyshire County Council coaches. Our current coach, Zoe, works with Y1 through to Y6 on a variety of sports and physical activities four days a week. This includes running intra-school (in school) competitions, as well as preparing the children for inter-school (out of school) competitions. Zoe will be continuing with us but we likely be employing an additional Play Leader to work with the Key Stage 1 and Foundation 'bubbles' to target specific physical and sports skills during lunchtime.

It is likely that much of the rest of our work in 2022-23 will reflect a similar approach to previous years preCOVID though the increased Sports Premium will support additional release time for Miss Allanson, our Sports Leader, as well as provision of sports related play equipment for lunchtimes.

Events will be planned throughout the year for the local family of schools and also across North East Derbyshire. We try and take part in as many of these as possible but this can fluctuate with the ‘timing’ around school circumstances.

Extra-curricular opportunities

The school offers a variety of extra-curricular clubs including sport.

Some of these take place during lunchtime and others take place after school.  Current clubs can be found on the Newsletters or by contacting school. Through the year, some of the clubs we run include football, tag rugby, table tennis, netball, hockey, cricket and athletics. Outside providers also support basketball, cricket and tennis clubs during the year. To ensure access to the competitive events the NEDCC lunchtime coach provides relevant coaching sessions.

School Facilities

We have excellent facilities including a modern Sports Hall, a large school field and markings for netball on our playground. The Sports Hall hosts local clubs including Taekwondo Martial Arts, Rugger Eds Tag Rugby and Pilsley Football Club. We also have a large fixed play equipment area to develop balance and climbing.

School Sports Resources

We have extensive resources for PE and sport including Tag Rugby, UniHoc, Short Tennis, Football, Netball, Basketball, Frisbee Golf, Kwik Cricket, Badminton, Table Tennis and a very wide range of smaller equipment for curriculum sports and PE.
